This is a painting that I did for Friends of Woodland Park Zoo Elephant for a fundraiser they hosted in 2007. POSTER

These Woodland Park Zoo eles languish in a too small enclosure. This zoo made the In Defense of Animals 10 worst zoos. They are also suffering from the zoo's desire to breed them. Hansa's mother Chai was sent to Dickerson Park Zoo in Missouri where their herd is known to carry the elephant herpes virus. She conceived Hansa there and this baby died June 2007, at 6 years old, from that very virus. Any baby from the Woodland Park herd is likely to contract and possibly die from this virus and yet the zoo still wants to breed them supposedly for "conservation" but NONE of these elephants will be returned to the wild. They will live in an inadquate zoo environment. They are killing them with too little space, hard substrate, and inadequate enrichment.
